In addition to Midnight Skye, now lifelong friend Ron Gordon and I are again collaborating musically. We have often talked through the years about rising again from the ashes of the eighties—and now we have. After meeting singer/songwriter Rachel Easterly, the three of us have formed Reel Paradox. Our debut album was released in 2018.
Each of us brings different influences and style to the music. Rachel is a prolific lyricist with a tremendous gift for melody. These are highlighted in the album’s opening track, “Perspectives.” Ron is a lover of blues and reggae who brings these elements to compositions and his playing. He also has a very sharp wit, which is on display in the tongue in cheek “Gluten Free Blues.” I provide elements of rock to the music. You can hear this in my song about health care in America, “State of the Art.”
A common question that is asked about original music is, “Who does it sound like?” After pondering this question for some time, my only answer is that we sound like Reel Paradox. We can’t come up with an artist whose sound is similar to ours. Give us a listen—and you tell me who you think we sound like. Or if we sound like us.
